HOW TO PLAN AHEAD FOR A VACATION..........NOT!

Well, Dear Readers, this blog is most certainly NOT a true How-To about Vacation Planning.  We all know that 50% of vacation joy is anticipation.  Planning activities.  Buying new clothes.  Researching restaurants.  Fighting anxiety....

Dear Tracy had invited us back to Hawaii several times and Michelle’s and my schedule just didn’t quite work out, so Tracy, ever the Take Charge Sorta Gal, forged ahead and invited her good friend Stephanie to join her this year at the condo.

Thursday, Feb 22, snow falls in Mountain Home and Meridian.  Michelle is the first one to succumb. Mind you, Tracy leaves on Saturday morning and the skiff of snow was just Too Much for a middle sister to bear!  So, off to Hawaii.....

Never one to complain, I happily planned the trip to Provo Utah with George to watch Gonzaga play basketball that weekend.  However, nasty winter driving weather raised its evil head, and two hours into the drive, we made the decision to turn around and head back home.  I kiddingly told George I should go to Hawaii the next day with my sisters, and the Dear Man said "Why not?  Call and make reservations."

There ARE definite advantages to last minute trips.  For one thing, you just go to your closet and pack any summer clothing that is ironed, eliminating indecision.  For another, if you are a nervous flyer, as I am, you have very little time to fret, stew, or work yourself into a basket case.  And thirdly, you leave your husband for an uninterrupted week to finish painting all the cabinets without any "help" from you!

Tickets safely in hand, Tracy’s Dane drove us to the airport Saturday morning, in a snowstorm, about 40 mph on the freeway.  Several hours later, we were all toasting merrily!

As an aside here, Stephanie proved to be such a good sport as her "relaxing" vacation turned into an Idaho Roses Extravaganza!  And she was made an Honorary Sister, a kudo not to be scoffed at.  (Or at which not to be scoffed...for you purists!)

Returning to a previous subject, fighting anxiety....I now am firmly in the "better living through chemistry" camp!  A person who shall remain nameless, introduced me to Xanax, which eliminated that feeling of dread deep in my stomach and made a six hour flight bearable.  I still keep the plane in the air with five Our Fathers and five Hail Marys at takeoff and landing, tho’.

After all is said and done, whether you plan ahead or jump in with both feet at the last minute, traveling with my sisters is a joy and a blessing!
